About the timber
Tasmanian oak refers to the hardwood derived from three tree species: Eucalyptus regnans, Eucalyptus obliqua, or Eucalyptus delegatensis, specifically when sourced from Tasmania. In Victoria, the wood of Eucalyptus regnans and Eucalyptus delegatensis is referred to as Victorian ash. Each species has its own common names: Eucalyptus obliqua is known as stringybark or messmate, Eucalyptus regnans is recognized as mountain ash, and the closely related Eucalyptus delegatensis is referred to as alpine ash or woollybut.
